When to Choose Carpeting Over Other Types of Flooring

When renovating your home, one of the essential questions you may find yourself asking is, “Should I go with carpet, tile, or hardwood flooring?” What seems like a such a simple question can be actually very difficult! Renovating a home can be stressful enough, so we’ve put together a simple guide for some situations in which carpeting may be the right choice for you and your project.

Not every renovation job is the same, and not every room is the same, either. Your bathroom, of course, serves a different purpose than your bedroom, for example. And it’s doubtful that you would want to put carpet in your bathroom. The constant moisture and humidity in a bathroom are likely to damage a carpet — and damage it quickly. And while carpet may seem like a great option for your kitchen, the decision won’t feel so great the first time you spill red wine, coffee, or marinara sauce on the carpet!

Sometimes our wallets are the ones making the decisions in the end. If you’re renovating on a budget, carpet can be a great option! Flooring is sold by the square foot. Carpet typically costs somewhere between $6 and $12 per square foot installed, but hardwood flooring costs around $12 to $20 per square foot installed. That means that even the more expensive carpeting can be cheaper than hardwood flooring. You’ll still get a luxurious look and feel to your home, but without the hefty price tag.

Especially if you live in a region that gets colder during the winter months, carpeting may be the solution for you. Hardwood does not retain much heat or warmth when compared to carpeting. Getting out of bed on a cold winter morning would be a little bit easier with carpeting in the bathroom. We doubt you’d get cold feet when choosing to remodel your home with carpet!

Similar to the section above, carpet brings a level of comfort and relaxation to a room. Carpet can particularly be nice in bedrooms, children’s rooms, dens, and other recreation spaces. After a long day at work, your new home will be there to, well, welcome you home!

Carpet can also be a wonderful option for little ones! The soft, cushion-y surface makes playtime safer for your child. Any tumbles and falls will result in less bruises and hopefully less tears! Fragile goods, other than children, also have a better chance of making it out without any scrapes or cracks on a carpeted floor.

If you’ve ever lived in a 2 or 3 story home, you know that you can hear each and every footstep of the person that’s currently above you. This can understandably be annoying to many people. However, carpeting can help alleviate this nuisance, as it muffles these noises. Finally! You’ll be able to get a full night’s sleep — even if your teenager decides that 2 AM is the perfect time to rehearse the newest Tik Tok dance.

It’s up to you!

At the end of the day, the choice to go with carpeting is yours! Your own personal preferences will indicate which type of flooring you’d like to remodel your home with. There’s pros and cons to each type of flooring, but there are certainly times that carpeting can be a wonderful option for you and your home!
